STETHS swamp Sydney Pagon 17-love - Top strikers delight in goalscoring crave
Top strikers had a field day in the ISSA daCosta Cup football competition yesterday, as nine goals from Kaieem Lewis of St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS) and a hat-trick from Orane Watson of Glenmuir High helped demolish their opponents.
In Zone E, STETHS, on a three-game winning streak and Lewis' goals, handed an unkind 17-0 beat down on guests Sydney Pagon STEM Academy, while Glenmuir, aided by Watson's strikes, remained perfect as they handed Foga Road High a 9-0 whipping for their fifth loss.
Scoring machine Lewis netted in the second, 20th, 38th, 43rd, 53rd, 60th, 64th, 68th and 70th minutes to complete his onslaught. His teammates Jahvor Lawrence joined the scoring party in the 33rd, while captain Deandre Barnett added a goal in the 37th and Rahiem Whyte in the 45th. Kenoy Banton added to the tally in the 55th and 74th minutes to complete his brace, while Wayne Brown took his turn at scoring in the 78th, and substitute goalkeeper Timmari Roach showed his versatility by netting a brace in the 89th minute, and stoppage time.
With this win, STETHS remain second in group standings on 11 points, from three wins and two draws. Sydney Pagon now have six losses and remain at the bottom of the standings.
Lewis told STAR Sports he was hungry for goals.
"I scored four in the first half and wanted more in the second, so I put in the additional effort to get that done," Lewis said.
According to the young striker, the goalscoring mindset is a consistent approach for him in every game.
"I want to contribute significantly to my team's success. I had a strong desire to score more and was driven by success with the competitive spirit against our opponents today," added Lewis.
For Glenmuir, top striker Watson scored in the 21st, 53rd and 71st to complete the hat-trick. Dunsting Cohen scored in the 11th minute, Ricardo Binns in the 27th and Kamari Wray in the 30th and 55th minutes. Christopher Rodney added to the tally in the 45th and Justin Murray finished off the scoring in the 85th minute.
Glenmuir now have five wins and 15 points, while Foga Road are last in standings.
Watson said the team clicked yesterday.
"I am happy for the three goals but I could have scored more. The team performed great and our intensity was high," said Watson.
In other high-scoring games, Vere Tech made light work of Bustamante High with an 11-0 win, Knox College clamped Alston High 7-0 and Denbigh thumped Winston Jones 7-0.
Garvey Maceo were too much to handle as they defeated Kemps Hill High 2-1, handing the latter their first defeat, while in Zone G Alphansus Davis smashed Christiana 3-0.
The competition continues today with 12 matches.
