Richie Flo inspired by St Thomas
In June, Richie Flo returned to his home parish of St Thomas for the first time since Hurricane Melissa struck Jamaica last October.
It inspired him to revive promotion of his second album, St Thomas mi Born, an 11-song set.
“Coming back to St Thomas after everything that happened with Hurricane Melissa was emotional. St Thomas wasn’t hit as hard as some of the other parishes, but you can still see the effects in different ways,” said Richie Flo. “What stood out to me the most, though, was the strength, resilience, and positive spirit of the people.”
The dreadlocked singer has lived in Toronto, Canada, for almost 20 years. St Thomas is the birthplace of some of the region’s most famous people, including National Hero Paul Bogle, entertainers Bushman and Popcaan, and Miss World 2019, Toni-Ann Singh.
Richie Flo said he was overwhelmed by the reaction to his recent homecoming.
“It really reminded me where I come from and why I make music. Seeing that kind of support has made me even more determined to promote this album,” he said. “This project is for the people who have been with me from day one and for everyone who believes in rising above challenges.”
