Serge St Thomas Major League champs open with a win
Serge St Thomas Football Association (STFA) Major League defending champions White Horses kick-started their title defence with a win on Wednesday's opening day, getting the better of Heartsease United 1-0.
The defending champions needed a late strike from Nicouy Thompson (88th minute) in the feature game of a double at the York Complex.
In the earlier game, Bath Sports Club beat Prospect 5-4 in a nine-goal thriller.
Bath looked well clear of their opponents as they scored the opening goal in the 23rd minute through Rushane Rowe, and the floodgates were open. Chivali Edwards made it 3-0 with a quick brace, striking in the 32nd and 34th minutes, before Jahvaine Whittaker made it 4-0 in the 38th.
Rowe returned to make it 5-0 going into half-time, as he completed a brace in the 41st minute.
However, Prospect would not remain silent in the second half and started their rally when Delano Higgins scored in the 49th minute.
Romain Rochester bagged Prospect's second goal on the hour mark, before Kevor Hamilton (70th) and Jamari Campbell (82nd) cut the deficit to only one goal.
Despite their valiant fight, Prospect could not find the equaliser as Bath held out for the win.
