Silk Boss to do gospel songs
Dancehall star Silk Boss revealed that he will be delving into gospel music, following a recent viral video with his rendition of gospel artiste Kevin Downswell's ' Carry Me'.
Silk Boss told THE WEEKEND STAR that though he's not eyeing a musical crossover at this time, he knew that with his personal connection to God, he was destined to produce a gospel track.
"I'm spiritual and a chosen child of God. So yes, there will be future works of gospel...I will be writing and releasing a gospel track soon," Silk Boss promised.
Silk Boss was captured in a moment of acoustic freestyle with a member of the band Abroad Records, as the artiste vibed to his rendition of a musical medley and the strumming rhythm from Abroad's guitarist. In the medley, Silk Boss delivered Carry Me which received a flood of comments from fans, encouraging him to "try gospel/reggae music" while others complimented him on the power of his voice.
Silk Boss expressed appreciation for the positive responses, citing the single as one of his "favourite gospel tracks".
"He (Downswell) is one of my favourite [artistes] also and a strong role model," he added.
Known for his emotion-jerking songs and his powerful, meticulously composed voice, Silk Boss admitted that he believes he is capable of utilising his special gift to save souls.
Silk Boss, who celebrated his 24th birthday on Thursday, is also anticipating a grand commemoration this evening (Friday) at Club Meca with close friends and family, as well as a high-energy performance from local entertainers.
"My birthday celebration is a great start to being able to celebrate life since so many of my fellow Jamaicans didn't make it through Category 5 [Hurricane Melissa]. So, I'm just being thankful for life," he said.
"As long as I have life, everything is worth celebrating [because] I'm building a legacy for my youths dem future endeavours," he added.
The event is presented by Club Meca in association with XinCity. As part of the Hurricane Melissa recovery efforts, a donation drop box will also be placed at the door and at the selector's booth in conducting a drive in aid of rebuilding the nation.
Plans are now under way for the artiste to wrap the year with shows in the USA. He also revealed that he is releasing an EP in 2026.
